Smith and Wesson Brands Inc., one of the United States oldest firearms manufacturers, has decided to move its headquarters from Massachusetts to Tennessee. The company announced to move its headquarters and other essential elements of its operations to Maryville, Tennessee, in 2023. Since the company was incorporated in 1852, it has been based in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Mark Smith, the President and CEO of the company, said that the decision was tough and emotional, but the thorough analysis showed that this is best for the company.
For maintaining the health and strength of the iconic company, Smith and Wesson, relocation of the headquarters has no other alternatives. The new legislative rules in Massachusetts, if implemented, will prevent the company from manufacturing certain ammunition and firearms- legal in most of the states of America.
The legislative reforms undertaken lately have made the company consider relocation seriously. The factory in Springfield, Massachusetts, will also remain operational though it will be reconfigured.
