Nikola (NKLA), the global leader in zero-emission transportation and energy infrastructure solutions, collaborates with Saia LTL Freight (Saia). The companies have come together to accelerate the implementation of heavy-duty electric vehicles.

The LOI (Letter of intent) signed by Saia, a less than truckload company (LTL), includes the purchase or lease of 100 Nikola Tre heavy-duty battery electric vehicles (BEVs) after the demonstration program completes satisfactorily.

The demonstration program, expected to begin in the first half of 2022, will include three Nikola BEV trucks operating in separate locations across the Saia network. With the initial 25 trucks targeted to be delivered by the end of this year, the deliveries of the production vehicles are intended to take place between 2022 and 2024.

“We are thrilled that Saia has chosen to work with us. Saia is a leader in the freight and logistics industry, and will be a key development partner for Nikola. This announcement represents another milestone in our continuous progress towards the delivery of zero-emissions vehicles, energy solutions and the sales and service network required to support our valued customers.”

said Nikola President, Energy, and Commercial Pablo Koziner.

As a leader of transportation providers, operating for around 100 years, Saia also aims to reduce the operational impact on the environment. Most companies are moving towards sustainable business practices, optimizing equipment, and making corporate efficiencies. Nikola Tre BEV is a step for Saia towards reaching this goal.

“We are excited to partner with Nikola Corporation as we work to integrate battery-electric trucks into our tractor fleet. We are deeply committed to conducting our business operations in a responsible and sustainable manner, reducing our impact on the environment while still providing our customers with exceptional service.”

said Saia President and CEO Fritz Holzgrefe.

Earlier, USA Trucks (USAK) also signed a letter of intent with Nikola to get its Tre BEVs from the Thompson centers. Saia joins the fleet by collaborating with Nikola to achieve zero-emissions transportation.

After the news, Nikola (NKLA) is up, trading at $10.24, up 0.36 points (3.64%) pre-market.
