AMC Entertainment, the world’s largest theatre chain becomes the first theatre operator to accept cryptocurrencies as a method of payment.
The company’s CEO Adam Aron, took twitter to announce this.
Using BitPay Wallet, customers will be able to purchase digital gift cards of upto $200 per day using Bitcoin, Dogecoin, Ethereum and other cryptocurrencies. It will be accepted on AMC’s web site, mobile app, and in theatres.
This is huge news as the adoption rate of cryptocurrencies have been drastically increasing. On Tuesday, SEC chair Gary Gensler confirmed that the agency won’t be banning cryptocurrency like China. This will encourage other firms to take up digital payments using cryptos.
Earlier this year, Major Cineplex Group, the largest movie theatre operator in Thailand, launched a payment pilot allowing customers to buy tickets with cryptos.
